Cactus Wren_JF07491

Cactus Wren_JF07491

To one not familiar with desert life, the presence of so many prickly plants, though fascinating, seems somewhat unwelcoming. But the Cactus Wren is right at home, deftly navigating so many hazards and even turning them into protective environments for nesting. As with most wrens, the Cactus Wren is bold and assertive. I marveled at his ability to make a seemingly hostile plant his home and to utilize the more friendly jointed fruits as a landing pad for entering the nest.
