Common Goldeneye_002_JF05127
An immature Common Goldeneye, distinguished by the less brilliantly golden yellow eye and more leather brown appearance of the bill. Goldeneyes are diving ducks searching out food such as aquatic invertebrates like snails and mussels, crabs and crayfish along with aquatic insect larvae and even a few seeds and fish. They don't compete with Dippers for food since Goldeneyes prefer lakes and slower moving waters compared to the Dippers fast and clear streams.
