Catawba Rhododendron_JF03088

Catawba Rhododendron_JF03088

The Catawba Rhododendron (Rhododendron catawbiense) is a lovely, mid-sized, evergreen shrub of the Appalachian Mountains. Much of its native range covers the mountains of central and western Virginia. The blossoms may range from a deep pink to a pale lavender. In my region they cover its branches in late May to early June. It is one native that is often available at local nurseries.

This image shows the single Pistil and multiple Stamens of its perfect flower.
