Catberry Holly

Catberry Holly

The Catberry Holly (Ilex mucronata) is a shrub native to the northeastern U.S. and Canada. Unlike many hollies with berries that shine with a waxy coating, the fruit of the Catberry has a satin sheen that seems to change from red to purple as the light glances of its curves.

Dolly Sods in West Virginia is at the southernmost extension of its natural range.

Location: Dolly Sods Wilderness, WV
