Calliope Hummingbird_Male_JF03707
The park ranger was kind enough to show me a perch this male uses as he defends his territory. He may be the smallest bird in North America, but he is fierce in his defense of his land.
While photographing him another male challenged his space. I witnessed an amazing display of aerial acrobatics complete with sounds like tiny fighter jets as they climbed and then dove at speeds hard to track with my merely human eyes.
