Soft yellow catkins in the willow trees attract many early migrant and resident birds. Among the native trees of early spring, Black Willow (Salix nigra) seems especially 'birdy', which probably means it is an especially good tree for insects.

For me this image is as much about the beauty of the willow and the oriole as it is the importance of the tree to her well-being.
