A minute before, this juvenile Great Blue Heron had swallowed a small perch. This image shows him fluffing out the feathers of his neck. Why? I don't really know. But I couldn't help but think perhaps the fish gave one last wiggle.
That the bird is a juvenile is evidenced by the solid gray of his head compared to the bold white cap of a mature Great Blue.
