Pink Ladys Slipper_JF02949
We climbed to a high mountain plateau in Shenandoah National Park. Leveling out and catching our breath, we discovered the trail led through a grove of White Pines (Pinus strobus) and at their feet, hundreds of Pink Lady's Slippers (Cypripedium acaule). What joy as we walked on and on calling out each Lady's Slipper as we passed. This one shows last year's seed head.
Location: Shenandoah National Park, Virginia.
