House Finches (Carpodacus purpureus) are not historically native to the eastern United States. They were at times a bird brought into homes as a pet. Some were transported from their natural range in the western U.S. to the east. And some of those escaped and populated the eastern U.S.

At first I thought them not too interesting. But photographing them has brought a greater appreciation as I've seen the details of the male's rosy feathers and his sweet countenance.
