It's September. In fall, black bears go into a state called "hyperphagia", in which they feel almost continuously, up to 20 hours a day. This Black Bear (Ursus americanus) has found a patch of Western Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) in which to feed. Her coat is thick. She looks well fed.
