Maumee Bay Willows_J1F7218
The wetlands of Maumee Bay State Park are only a small remnant of what was once the Great Black Swamp, lowland wet forests extending many miles beyond the shore of Lake Erie. Black Willows (Salix nigra) are one of only a few trees that can live in standing water. These are in bloom, giving the swamp a creamy yellow-green glow.
