Tree Swallow_JF07828

Natural tree cavities, like this one, are in high demand in the breeding season. Many birds, like this Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor), depend on natural cavities in trees to provide them with a more secure nesting site.

This particular male Tree Swallow had to maintain a vigil nearby to prevent other cavity nesting birds like Black-capped Chickadees and Prothonotary Warblers from taking it over. Looks like a perfect fit.
